With February half term nearly over and the kids back to school soon, planning the Easter Holidays will be next on your agenda and we have the perfect trip/day out for you.
If you are a huge fan of Harry Potter then a day out to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London has to be done… but if you wait till the 6th April 2019 you can experience the Gringotts Wizarding Bank Attraction.
What is Gringotts?
The wizarding bank is the only bank of the supernatural world and is owned and operated by goblins. The history goes that in 1474, a goblin called Gringott opened the bank, located around the North Side of Diagon Alley in London, England. It was then owned by the Ministry of Magic in the 1500s. In 1865 the Ministry decided to put full control of Gringotts back in the goblins hands. It stores money and valuables for wizards and witches but you can also exchange Muggle money for wizarding money. What is really clever about this system, is that the goblins recirculate muggle money into the muggle world, so no one is none the wiser. Famously Hagrid says to Harry that other than Hogwarts, Gringotts is the safest place in the wizarding world.
‘Fortius Quo Fidelius’
‘Strength through loyalty’
Yes, you read right… there has been two break-in’s so far at Gringotts in 1991 and 1998. In 1991 Quirinus Quirrell acting under orders from Lord Voldemort, attempted to steal from Vault 713. This was a high-security vault that held the Philosopher’s Stone. The break-in shocked the wizarding world. The 1998 break-in was committed by Harry, Hermione and Ron. They were searching for one of Lord Voldemort’s Horcrux’s and soon found out that it was in the Lestranges Vault. The treasure in the vault had charms placed on it so thieves would be burned by the objects. Amazingly the gang managed to escape with the Horcrux on a half-blind dragon, leaving parts of the bank in ruins.
“Gringotts, the wizard bank! Ain’t no safer place. Not one. Except perhaps Hogwarts” – Rubeus Hagrid.
Going back to the exhibition… it will be the Studio Tour’s biggest addition to date. If that didn’t tickle your taste buds for all things Harry Potter – the exhibition has been designed and built by many of the original crew who worked on the films including Stuart Craig, this is the man that won an Oscar® and BAFTA for Production Design.
The permanent addition will allow visitors to walk through the wizarding bank of Gringotts, the Lestrange vault and a gallery of goblins.
The grand banking hall will be decorated with three magnificent crystal chandeliers and finished with real brass leaf – no expense spared.
Don’t forget the goblin tellers desks which will be finished with inkwells, quills, ledgers and piles of Galleons, Sickles and Knuts.
